Do you have an iPhone? Want to take a screen shot from it? Apple has made it easy to take a screenshot on your iPhone. It allows you to capture a screenshot of what you have in your screen in PNG file format. You can simply share it with your friends via text or email. You can also share it among social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. OK now let’s dive into the topic. How to take a screenshot on iPhone of any generation?

1Take screenshots with physical buttons

Identify necessary buttons

First you have to find the Home button and the lock button on your iPhone. They are the only buttons on iPhone that do not have volume keys.

Home button is the circular button which is located on the face of the screen directly below the screen.

The lock button is located on the right hand side of your iPhone. It is also termed as the sleep/ Wake button.

How to take a screenshot on iPhone 8 and earlier

When you need to take a screenshot press the Home and Lock buttons at the same time as an when you see what you want to capture. Then the iPhone signals the taking of the screenshot by briefly flash white the iPhone display. Further you will hear a faint shutter noise.

In this case if you press the Lock button slightly before the Home button, then your iPhone’s screen will turn off. If you press and hold the Home button for a long time, then it will activate Siri. So that timing is the key. Keep in touch on that.

If you are using iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR, then to take a screenshot you have to press the Volume up button on the left side together with the Lock (Sleep/Wake) button on the right

Edit the screenshots

Once you capture the screenshot, it will display as a small preview in the bottom left corner of the screen. This preview screen will disappear in five seconds of time. You can dismiss it by swiping it to the left. If you want to magnify and crop or make changes to the image, then simply tap on the thumbnail of the screenshot. Once you’ve done the changes tap on Done appear on the upper left corner. Then tap on Save to Photos if you are in need of the screenshot or tap on Delete Screenshot to dismiss it.

View and share the screenshots

OK. Now you have captured the image. Now where do we find the captured image on iPhone? iPhone stores the captured screenshots directly on the camera roll(i.e the Photos App). It is the app which is represented by a multi colored sunflower icon. To view the screenshots simply tap on the Photos app. Scroll down to the bottom of the photos stream to view the recently captured screenshots. You can view the enlarge images by tapping on the thumbnails.

If you want to share the captured screenshots tap on the box in the lower-left corner and access options for sharing the screenshot over email, text, AirDrop, Twitter, Facebook, and other social networks.

2Taking screenshots on iPhone with AssistiveTouch

What is AssistiveTouch? AssistiveTouch is a feature on iPhone which allows the user to perform more complex touch-based tactics like multi-finger swiping, pinching or activating 3D Touch.

How to turn on AssistiveTouch?

To turn on the Assistive touch,
• Navigate to the Settings app and select General.
• Then tap Accessibility.
• Toggle AssistiveTouch to on position.

Bring up the AssistiveTouch menu

Once you enable AssistiveTouch, you now see a grey dot on your screen. This is the Assistive Touch Menu. To move the AssistiveTouch Menu on your screen you can touch and hold the button. Then drag it to the new spot. The AssistiveTouch Menu offers quick access to a dozens of iPhone’s device functions.

Capture the screenshot

As we mentioned earlier AssistiveTouch menu offers quick access to a dozens of iPhone’s device functions. You can customize the AssistiveTouch Menu by tap on Customize Top Level Menu. To change one of the functions to capture a screenshot tap an icon to change it. Then select a new function from the list. Let’s select Screenshot. Then tap Done.
To open the AssistiveTouch Menu, tap on the AssistiveTouch Dot. Then your customized menu will open.
